Research statement

My research interest span the physics and chemistry of rocks, both from an experimental and theoretical point of view. Over the years, I investigated elastic and poroelastic, hydraulic, thermal and electric properties in rocks. For application purposes, I have had a particular interest in sedimentary rocks that are complex geo-materials saturated by different fluids. Those rocks have a major socio-economical importance as they are important targets for O&G industry, Geothermal energy or CO2 geological storage. I am currently extending my interest to other rock types considered as possible targets for geothermal energy.


Curriculum & Research experiences

- March 2017 (24 months) : EPFL and Marie Curie Fellow, EPFL, Switzerland. Laboratory : Laboratoire Experimental de Mecanique des Roches, IIC-ENAC, EPFL. Project : PROGRESS (LP as the PI) _ Characterisation of the physical and mechanical properties of rocks prior and during geothermal energy production. Funded by MSCA-COFUND from the European Research Council, coordinated by EPFL.

- May 2016 (10 months) : Wagemann Post-Doctoral Fellow, RWTH Aachen, Germany. Laboratory : Applied Geophysics and Geothermal Energy, E.ON ERC, RWTH Aachen. Project : THEN (LP as the PI) _ Links between elastic and thermal properties in reservoir rocks. Funded by the Wagemann foundation, under the aegis of the Fondation de France.

- March 2015 (14 months) : ENS-Total post-Doctoral fellow, Lab. of Geology of the ENS, France. Tasks : Co-supervision of a Ph.D. student ; Investigation of Dispersion/Attenuation effects in sandstones ; Investigation of poroelastic properties of sandstones and carbonates.

- Dec. 2015 : Ph.D. thesis from the Ecole Normale Supérieure. Thesis : Effect of fluids and frequencies on elastic properties of sedimentary rocks (defended on the 12 Feb. 2015). Laboratory : Geology lab. of ENS, under the supervision of Prof. Yves Guéguen and Dr. Jérôme Fortin.

- Dec. 2011 : Eng.D. from the Ecole et Observatoire des Sciences de la Terre (EOST, Strasbourg). Thesis : Role of injecting super-critical CO2 on the elastic properties of carbonate rocks. Laboratory : CSIRO-ESRE (Perth, Australia), under the supervision of Dr. Joel Sarout, Dr. Lionel Esteban and Dr. Michael B. Clennell.

- Jun. 2011 : M.Sc. from the Institut de Physique du Globe de Strasbourg (IPGS, Strasbourg). Thesis : Thermal Conductivity in rocks : Modelling and experimental investigation. Laboratory : CSIRO-ESRE (Perth, Australia), under the supervision of Dr. Lionel Esteban, Dr. Joel Sarout and Dr. Ludovic Ricard.


Grants & Awards

- January 2017 : EPFL & Marie Curie Fellow. Awarded an EPFL Fellow fellowship from the MSCA-COFUND actions of the European Research Council, coordinated by EPFL.

- July 2016 : Recipient of the AGU’s "MRP Graduate Research Award", from the Mineral & Rock Physics (MRP) group of the American Geophysical Union (AGU).

- April 2016 : Wagemann Fellow. Awarded a fellowship from the Ernst and Margarete Wagemann foundation, coordinated by the Fondation de France.

- March 2016 : Prestige & Marie Curie Fellow. Awarded a Prestige out-going fellowship from the European Union (Marie Curie Actions), coordinated by Campus France.
