Research statement

My research interests cover the characterization and turnover of soil organic matter. Over the last couple of years, I have used multiple techniques (NMR spectroscopy 1D and 2D ; fractionation schemes ; SEM ; PyGC/MS ; etc.) to characterize soil carbon and to untangle the processes behind its turnover. I have looked at bulk samples mostly in forested environments both in boreal and temperate climates but have also particularly focused on pyrogenic carbon in boreal ecosystems. Building on my previous experience at soil development characterization and soil mapping, I have a specific interest in the pedological controls of SOM stocks and turnover.

- Sept. 2013–Dec. 2015 : post-doctoral fellow at the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, Umeå University, Umeå, Sweden. Project : soil organic matter characterization and turnover with novel methods (2D nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy ; glucose isotopomers). Supervised by Prof. Jürgen Schleucher


Curriculum

- July 2013 : Ph.D. in Soil Science Thesis : Black carbon in Quebec boreal black spruce forests (defended on July 4th, 2013). University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB (Canada) – department of Renewable Resources, under the supervision of Prof. Sylvie Quideau.

- Dec. 2011 : Engineer in Agronomy (master equivalent) from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure Agronomique de Rennes (France). Specialization Environment engineering – Option Soil and rural planning and development. Thesis : Soil criteria influencing the floristic composition and structure of a tropical rainforest (Paracou, French Guiana). Carried at CIRAD Kourou (Kourou, French Guiana), under the supervision of Dr. Vincent Freycon.
